Vincent Lombardi Obituary

Vincent J. Lombardi, known affectionately as Vinny, of Staten Island, New York, passed away on April 30, 2026, at the age of 86. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, cherished brother, and a kind and generous man whose presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew him.

Vinny was born on May 28, 1939, and was raised in Manhattan, the son of the late Charles and Katie Lombardi. He grew up in the Little Italy section of the city he loved, and those early years helped shape the spirited, hardworking, and good-natured man he would become. He met his future wife through a mutual friend in the City, and after marrying in 1972, they made their home in Staten Island, where they built a life centered on family, love, and lasting memories.

Vinny began his working career as a longshoreman at the New York City Piers, where he developed the strong work ethic and steady determination that would define his life. He later became a truck driver for Sky Haulage out of New York City. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his reliability, dedication, and the quiet strength he brought to every job he held.

Family was first and foremost in Vinny’s life. He adored his family, and nothing made him happier than spending time with those he loved, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Linda Lombardi, and their son and daughter-in-law, Nick Lombardi and Jessica Vreeland, along with his three beloved grandchildren, Nicolena, Robert, and Ava. Vinny is also survived by his son Vincent and his three sisters, Phyllis Varcelona, Dolores Lombardi, and DeDe Lombardi. He was predeceased by his son Michael in 1994, as well as his brothers Michael and Carlo.

After retiring, Vinny poured his love into cooking, and he became known as an amazing cook who delighted in feeding family and friends. His kitchen was often filled with the comforting signs of a life well lived, including a jug of Carlo Rossi red wine and, more often than not, a box of fresh Italian pastries nearby. He found joy in the simple pleasures of gathering, sharing a meal, and making sure everyone around him felt welcomed and cared for. His cooking was an expression of his love, and those who were fortunate enough to sit at his table will long remember his generosity and hospitality.

Vinny also loved being outdoors in the sun. Having grown up in the city, he jokingly referred to going to “tar beach,” and he carried that easy humor with him throughout his life. He was well known for his deep tan and his signature colognes, both of which became part of the unmistakable presence he brought into every room. He was a loving and kind man, and his gentle nature left a lasting impression on family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Vinny will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, his love of good food, and the warmth of his personality. He lived a full and meaningful life, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave so freely and the example he set will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration.
