Robert J. Hill, 68, passed away peacefully in his home in Atlantic Highlands, NJ on August 10, 2022, after a struggle with cancer. Bob was born at Monmouth Medical Hospital in Long Branch, NJ, on May 7, 1954. He graduated in 1972 from Middletown Township High School. He was also an active Boy Scout, achieving the Order of the Arrow, and Life Scout and did many camping trips with them, one of the highlights being the trip to the Philmont Ranch, High Adventure Camp in New Mexico.
Bob was a loving father, friend and neighbor. He was an active member of the Monmouth Boat Club, in Red Bank NJ, where he not only loved to sail, but also to relax with friends while enjoying the Navesink River. He especially enjoyed and took great pride in repairing and restoring the historic clubhouse. Bob enjoyed sailing “big boats” in the islands with his friends, and always told the best stories at sunset at anchor. Bob was an avid fisherman, crabber, golfer, and neighborhood gardener. His tomato plants and other gardening accomplishments fed his entire block in the summer, much to the delight of his neighbors, who have maintained his garden this summer after he passed. He truly enjoyed many family trips to Maine, where he would fish and relax in the woods and enjoy the coast of Maine in the family cabin there. Professionally, Bob was a skilled carpenter, painter, and general contractor, and did work at some of the finest homes and places of worship in Monmouth County NJ.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, William and Frieda Hill, his sisters Virginia Hill and Holly Ruskowski, and David Hill, his brother.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert Hill Jr. and Joshua Hill of Red Bank NJ, his sister, Beverly Benbrook of Bonita Springs, FL and his brother, William Hill of Sewaren, NJ. He also leaves behind his Ex-wife Dana deVoe Hill and stepchildren Colin Klosin and Frances Fargo.
He will be missed by all who knew him, including his many friends from sailing, fishing, contracting, and gardening.
There will be a memorial service at Monmouth Boat Club for Bob on Thursday September 8th, please RSVP to sws@att.net
