Born on December 1, 1949, in Montevideo, Uruguay, Raquel's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her profound love for her family and the many children she nurtured throughout her career.

Raquel's journey began in the vibrant community of Piedras Blancas, where she spent most of her life before her family moved to the United States in 2016. Her passion for helping others was evident early on, leading her to a fulfilling career as a government social worker in Uruguay. Raquel dedicated her life to the children at a local orphanage, teaching them essential life skills to ensure they could thrive as independent adults. Her impact on these young lives was immeasurable, and her legacy of compassion and empowerment lives on in each of them.

Her heart was always with her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Raquel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Juan Alvez Silveira, and her siblings, Fernando and Nely Nievas. She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Silvia Alvez, and her dear friend who was like a daughter to her, Lourdes Castro, who accompanied her on her journey to the United States. Raquel's love also extended to her sister, Gladys Nievas, who remains in Uruguay. Her warmth and guidance will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, John, Julian, and Andrea, and her great-grandchildren, Waylon and Dahlia, who brought immense joy to her later years.
