Michael Joseph Heinlein, II, 82, of Fair Haven, passed away Friday, April 16th. Michael was born in Long Branch, on September 21, 1938, a son of the late Dorthea and Michael Heinlein. He was raised in Atlantic Highlands then moved to Fair Haven in 1976. Michael attended Monmouth University and then graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy. He was a police officer in Atlantic Highlands for many years. He also started his own construction company, Heinlein and Sons Building Contractors. Michael proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Michael was proud of his heritage and was a member of the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed gardening and over the years raised many animals, farm animals along with domestic pets. He loved all kinds of animals! In his quiet time, he could be found reading a book, tending to his train collection, or cooking something fabulous in the kitchen for his family. Michael will fondly be remembered as a man with a heart of gold, a man of faith and a loving and devoted husband and father.
Michael is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Heinlein along with their four children; Michael Heinlein III, of Fair Haven; Heidi Heinlein of Fair Haven; Erik Heinlein, of West Long Branch; and Stephan Heinlein, of Fair Haven. He also leaves behind two sisters, Kathi Micalizzi, of SC; Madeline Bennett, of Belford and many nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his son, Daniel Heinlein in 2000 and his sister Anne Heinlein, last year.
It was Michael's wish to be privately cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
