Mary Ellen Mazzarella, 67, of Atlantic Highlands, peacefully passed away Saturday, January 2nd, at home with her loving family by her side. Mary Ellen was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., a daughter of the late Winifred and Gerard Benischek. Mary Ellen moved to Atlantic Highlands in 1974. She was a social worker at the Rutgers University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in New Brunswick for many years. Mary Ellen was an advocate for the mentally disabled. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially her with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time shopping! Mary Ellen belonged to a Christian bible study group who got together every Sunday to read the bible and socialize. She made many dear friends through this group.
Mary Ellen is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law; Cristi and Anthony Milone, of Old Bridge;
Cori and Jack Bevins, of Navesink, Cami and Daniel Parker, of Highlands. She also leaves behind three sisters; Loretta Jerome, Jeannie Van Bell, Alicia Benischek and a brother, Andrew Benischek along with five grandchildren; Grace, Lucy, Anthony, Amanda, and Christopher. Mary Ellen was predeceased by her three brothers; Mark, Roddy and David Benischek
A Celebration of Mary Ellen's Life will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 250 First Ave, Atlantic Highlands.
