John Rivera, 53, of Keyport, passed away Friday, February 19th. John was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 10, 1967, a son of the late Ananilsa and Juan Rivera. He was raised in New York City then moved to Tampa, Florida for 10 years before returning to New York. He was a building manager for St. Paul - St. Andrew Parish in New York City, where he met his future wife, Maryanne. After marrying, they settled in Keyport 3 1/2 years ago. John loved to volunteer and help people. He received several awards from New York Cares for the work he did to help rebuild the Rockaways after Superstorm Sandy. John's love for animals led him to volunteer at local animal shelters where he would walk the dogs. John enjoyed the outdoors and was always up for an adventure. When he was at home, he could be found snuggling with his dog or two cats, watching the Yankees or Giants on the television or just relaxing while listening to some country music. John will be remembered as a proud and loving father, devoted husband and dear friend to many.
John is survived by his wife, Maryanne Nigro. He also leaves behind two sons Bryan Rivera, of PA; Jaydan Rivera, of Puerto Rico; his sister, Elizabeth Rivera along with a grandson Kaydier, and several half brothers and sisters.
It was John's wishes that no services be held. If you would like to make a Memorial Donation in his memory, please do so to New York Cares at https://www.nycares.org
