James A. Hyer, Sr., 94, of Union Beach, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 22nd, at home surrounded by his family, two days shy of his 95th birthday. James was born in Long Branch, on March 24, 1928, the youngest child of the late Sophie and Joseph Hyer. He was raised in Hazlet and lived in Laurence Harbor before settling in Union Beach over 30 years ago. James served in the U.S. Air Force as a crash crewman during WWII. After his discharge from the Service, he met his wife and they married in 1953. James was a painter at International Container and he also built guitars at Danelectro in Neptune.
James enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Monmouth Park. He loved to be outside in the sun whether it was gardening in his yard, crabbing off the dock or just sitting on the porch with his family. He will fondly be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eileen Hyer and their 3 children; Colleen Hyer and her companion, Mark Angstadt; Gail Williams and husband William , and James, Jr. and his wife Lisa. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; Jennifer (Phil) Trumper, Erin (Elmer) Lamberson, Megan Giese, Nikole Carroll, Jesse Carroll, Jamie Hyer, Quinn (Brian) Jansen, Sharyn (Nino) Garafolo, Rachel (Mike) Guerin and James A. Hyers, III and 19 great grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his siblings; Edith, Frank, Sue and Jenny along with his brother-in-law and best friend, Bernard Farrell.
