Dennis Markowicz, who was born on April 22, 1947, and died on April 22, 2026, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend whose life was marked by loyalty, hard work, and love for his family. Dennis was born in Elizabeth, a son of the late Michael and Anna Rose Markowicz. He was raised in Roselle, where he spent his early years and formed the values that would guide him throughout his life. He proudly serving in the United States Air Force. While he was stationed in Alaska, he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Mary. Together, they built a life in Belford and raised their family with care, devotion, and strength.
For more than 20 years, Dennis worked as a truck driver with Island Trucking. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the pride he took in doing his job well. His years on the road reflected the steady and dependable nature that those who knew him came to admire. Dennis approached his work with dedication and carried that same sense of responsibility into every part of his life.
Dennis was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness, like playing guitar and a good game of chess. He loved fishing and treasured the time he spent with his friends at the American Legion Post 338 in Leonardo. These friendships meant a great deal to him, and he valued the companionship, conversation, and camaraderie he found there. His friendly nature made it easy for others to feel comfortable in his presence, and he was appreciated for the warmth and kindness he showed to those around him.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Markowicz, and their two children, Daniel Markowicz and Donna Barbour and her husband Philip. He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Sara Barbour, who brought him great joy. Dennis was a loving husband and a proud father and grandfather, and his family will always remember the steady love and support he gave throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Loretta Loessel and Carolyn Birmingham. Their memories remained a part of his life, and he carried the bonds of family with him always.
Dennis will be remembered for his friendly spirit, his devotion to his loved ones, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. He served his country honorably, worked hard for his family, and found happiness in the people and places that mattered most to him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the many lives he touched along the way.
