Alan J. Peterson of Ocean Township, NJ passed away on May 1, 2026 at the age of 95. He was born to parents Theodore and Vera (Marter) Peterson and grew up in Avon by the Sea, NJ. After serving in the United States Air Force, Alan returned home to Avon by the Sea and met his wife of 74 years, Olga. They married and soon thereafter settled in Middletown, NJ. There they raised their three children. He was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Mary’s Church New Monmouth, NJ for many decades. Alan retired from a career in finance with General Electric Credit Corporation. In 1995, he and Olga moved to Lewes, DE and built their dream home. In 2018 they moved back to New Jersey to be closer to family.
Alan was deeply devoted to his wife and children. He was at his happiest being a husband, father and friend. He was full of life and enjoyed the seashore, fishing, camping, traveling, tinkering (he was quite handy) and socializing. He will be remembered as loving, caring, sentimental, big hearted, warm, ready to lend a hand and, most certainly, funny. He was a people person who loved to talk to anyone and always left them with a smile on their face and his.
Alan is survived by his wife Olga, son Jeffrey Peterson and his wife Jean, daughter Patricia Lee and her husband Michael, son Christopher Peterson, grandchildren Matthew and Zoe, great granddaughter Nora and nephews Richard Maxwell, Theodore Lytwyn and Steven Lytwyn. He also leaves behind his dear friend Gladys Eldridge.
A funeral mass at St. Anselm Church in Wayside, NJ will be planned in the future. Interment will be private.
The family requests that those wishing to honor Alan, consider making a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
